1. Investigate the modes that come with Emacs, many of which aren't activated by default. Select one of these and then edit your .emacs file so that it will function. Try changing some of the default keybindings using the add-hook function.
2. Create a new directory and copy some add-on modes to it. Add the directory's path to your load-path, and then try to use the modes.
