Exercises

1. Subscribe to the groups called gnu.emacs.help, comp.emacs, and comp.emacs.xemacs.

2. See whether you can find a newsgroup called test in your area. For example, if you live in Germany, you might find a group called de.test.

3. When you have found such a group and you have ensured that the group is merely to send test messages, subscribe to it, and try to post a message to it.

4. Set up the expiring mechanism the way you like it. You might try to use the immediately expiring period to see what gets expired.

5. Send a letter to me. My email address is blackie@ifad.dk. But please include a header called X-Postcard:. (You do that like you add a To: field.). This way I can set up a procmail filter that sorts your mail into a folder I can read whenever I have time. Please also include the text "Postcard" in the subject (in case the other method fails). As the body of the letter you might send me any comment you have on the book.

6. If you succeed in sending me the letter I'll let procmail send you an automatically generated answer back. Read it with Gnus. (Don't delete it; you'll need it in the exercises of the next hour.)
